Evaluate the success of students who have taken DSP courses

Success in college-level courses of students who have taken DSP courses will be 75%.


1.       Administer the Developmental Studies Placement (DSP) Satisfaction Survey during spring term and build a database of results which includes past administrations. 

2.       Summarize information gleaned from the DSP Satisfaction Survey database and make recommendations as appropriate.

3.       Examine enrollment trends and grade distributions in DSP courses.

4.       Seek assistance of Institutional Research to develop “Tracking Reports” which follow students from last DSP course to first college course and from one DSP course to the next.  Compare “retention” of students enrolled in DSP course to those in rest of college. 

5.       Determine the graduation rate of students taking one or more DSP courses.  With the assistance of the Office of Institutional Research, develop a report of graduates who have completed one or more DSP courses.

6.       Review types of data collected in Developmental Studies and NewSkills and determine what needs to be collected and analyzed.

Increase the pass rate of NewSkills students challenging their developmental studies course placement.

75% of NewSkills students challenging their develop- mental studies course placement will succeed on their challenge test.


1.       Students will take an initial NewSkills assessment.

2.       After completing individualized program of study, learning outcomes will be assessed by results of challenge test.

3.       Continue to work with students who did not pass challenge test.

4.       Evaluate programs of study to ensure all learning outcomes are being met.

55% of the students enrolled in the flexible schedule DSPM0850 credit course will pass the course.

55% of the students completing the flexible schedule DPSM0850 credit course will pass with a “C” or better.


1.       Mid-term progress to be checked by phone calls, e-mails, letters, personal contact, etc.

2.       Final grades will be tracked from instructor’s grade reports.

3.       Data will be collected on course completion.

Provide to Business & Industry Institute a detailed description of NewSkills services which can be delivered to business and industry.  Include costs, model plans, etc.  By March 1, 2004.
