Hi Everyone,
I've reserved the large basement at Wesley for the nut grafting workshop from 1:00 - 3:00 PM on Feb. 9. I'll try to get some more scions Saturday if that is possible. I've made a list of equipment to bring: cutting board, rubbing alcohol, paper towels, exacto knife kit (available at Big Lots), small cooler with ice, sharp knife or one-sided razor blade, ziploc bags & plastic foil, labels, and permanent marker. I'm sure Ed can tell us how to tend the new grafts until they're planted. Remember to put the nuts in a warm place two weeks (~Jan. 26) before the workshop and put them back in the frig when the roots reach 3/4 to 1".

Hi All,

Joe, all sounds fine with a couple of additions, a cutting board or equivalent (I have used disposable cutting boards my wife gets for food processing), some alcohol and paper towels. I will try to have extras of all supplies. I have confirmed the Amherst scions will be here for everyone, I will also have Pilot Mountain and maybe a few others if time allows me to collect. Any scionwood you can spare to share will increase the probability of preserving genes and add to everyone's collection diversity.

Clint, it would be great if you could get us a room with a large table and chairs at the Wesley foundation or at Tech. I'm afraid it would be rather cramped in my kitchen and probably a little noisy with my young son. Give me a call and we can discuss.

The best time for me would be 1:00 - 1:30 PM after church. Bring as many nuts as you like, take the ones you want to bring out of the refrigerator about 2 weeks ahead and put them back in to hold at about 3/4 to1 inch for grafting. If you have an exacto kit and an extra handle, you can use a regular exacto blade instead of a one-sided blade.

I look forward to grafting with you folks!

Best WIshes,

Ed
