Volunteer State's
Science & Math Expo 2008

Have you ever driven a nail with a banana? Or
have you ever dropped an egg from a second-story window without breaking it?
Seen a Moon rock?
Taken a stroll down a Math Trail? Made ice cream in your hand? Seen
dozens of Diet Coke fountains? Crushed a can with a
little cold water? You have if you were at last year's Science and Math
Expo! This year's event promises to be even better. Join us
Thursday, April 3 for the 2008 Science and Math Expo -
The Extraordinary Science of Ordinary Things!
What:
The Science and Math Expo is a free teaching/learning
event aimed at grades 3-8. Volunteer State science and math students
present centers, workstations, activities and projects so visitors can
experience hands-on the wonders of math and science. This year's theme is
The Extraordinary Science of Ordinary Things!
with an emphasis on the science and math of everyday life. While aimed
primarily at grades 3-8, older and younger students will certainly enjoy the
event. Of particular interest this year, we will have a "flight
school" in
which visitors compete in various paper airplane events.
When and where:
The Expo will be held Thursday, April 3 from 2:30 to
6:30 pm in and around the Wallace Health Sciences Building on Vol State's
Gallatin Campus. Here's a
campus
map and a
map to Vol State
(you may need to zoom out to get a good view). Flight School will be in
the Pickel Field House gymnasium.

Again this year Vol State is hosting a contest to
design the poster to be used for publicity for the 2008
