Welcome to the virtual home of the
Tennessee Communication Association

The Tennessee Communication Association is a professional organization for communication scholars -- including, but not limited to, faculty and students -- who seek to improve communication education at all levels in Tennessee, encourage research in communication, and foster community recognition of effective communication.

This site is designed to meet, both the needs of our members, and to provide interested non-members with information about the mission and nature of the Tennessee Communication Association.  Your comments and suggestions for the improvement of this site are both invited and encouraged.  Contact the TCA webmaster with your suggestions.

TCA serves its membership
in a variety of ways:

  • Hosts an Annual Meeting to share papers and ideas that present research and offer practical suggestions for teaching.

  • Publishes newsletters to provide reports and disseminate information concerning all areas of communication scholarship and education.

  • Provides a forum for undergraduate and graduate student's
    reports on works in progress.

Message from Debra Jones
Past-President of the Tennessee Communication Association:

Dear TCA Colleagues,

I would like to take a few moments to share with you how this very website led me to begin my involvement with TCA. After moving to Tennessee and obtaining a full-time position at Chattanooga State, I was curious as to whether or not there was a state-wide association. An internet search quickly led me to the TCA website where I learned that the annual conference was in the near future. I suggested to my two full-time colleagues that we attend the conference to “check it out.” The directions on the website led us to the Foundation House in Murfreesboro. It really is true no matter how “mature” we get, life continues to be pretty much like it was in kindergarten.  It is always a little unnerving to walk into a group of new people, especially when you think they all already know each other. As we arrived in that beautiful setting, questions arose in the back of my mind. Will we be welcome? Will this group have something to offer me? Do I really want to do this?  Any questions I had were quickly put to rest by the warm and hearty greeting we received from the figure at the table in the foyer. Many of you have probably already guessed that person was none other than Dorotha Norton. By the end of the conference, we had received many other warm welcomes and my questions were answered. Yes, this group has something to offer me, and it was certainly something I wanted to join. (letter continues here)
