John Campbell
Nomination
As director of graduate studies at the University of Memphis, Dr. Campbell has
been instrumental in developing and guiding the new Doctoral program at the
university. In addition to recruiting top students for the program, Dr. Campbell
has also been successful in recruiting students from a variety of ethnic and
cultural backgrounds. The diversity of students in the University of Memphis
program is certainly one of the strengths of the program.
In addition, Dr. Campbell also serves as a mentor for the graduate students,
and he treats each student with professionalism and with a caring
attitude. As a non-traditional student
in the doctoral program, I can personally attest to Dr. Campbell's willingness
to offer encouragement and positive reinforcement to the students under his
direction.
Dr. Campbell excels in the classroom. His classes are always challenging and
his students leave with a great deal of information about the subject under
consideration. Dr. Campbell requires that his students contribute significantly
to their own learning as well as to the knowledge of their fellow classmates.
He is a demanding taskmaster, but he is always fair in his assessment of
student work and in his feedback is always positive.
Finally, his classes are also fun. It is obvious that Dr. Campbell enjoys
teaching; he enjoys his subject matter and his enthusiasm is passed on to his
students. Dr. Campbell provides an example of how a college professor should
conduct his or her classroom, and how a top professor should engage students in
the process of learning.
Dr. Campbell is an outstanding educator who leads by example.
Sincerely,
