Welcome to the virtual home of the
Tennessee Communication Association

The Tennessee Communication Association is a professional organization for communication scholars -- including, but not limited to, faculty and students -- who seek to improve communication education at all levels in Tennessee, encourage research in communication, and foster community recognition of effective communication.

This site is designed to meet, both the needs of our members, and to provide interested non-members with information about the mission and nature of the Tennessee Communication Association.  Your comments and suggestions for the improvement of this site are both invited and encouraged.  Contact the TCA webmaster with your suggestions.

TCA serves its membership
in a variety of ways:

  • Hosts an Annual Meeting to share papers and ideas that present research and offer practical suggestions for teaching.

  • Publishes newsletters to provide reports and disseminate information concerning all areas of communication scholarship and education.

Message from Leonard Assante,
Past-President of the Tennessee Communication Association:

Welcome to the Tennessee Communication Association website!  We have created this site to serve our membership, those interested in joining TCA, and those interested in or researching the discipline of communication.

TCA holds an Annual Conference, publishes a newsletter, and serves as the voice of communication scholars, teachers and students in Tennessee.

We are affiliated with the National Communication Association and have members from institutions across the state.  Since it is our goal to have the most comprehensive, useful and user-friendly web page of any communication organization, we hope your visit to the new TCA website will prove enjoyable and useful.

I would like to thank the faculty and administration of Volunteer State Community College for agreeing to host the TCA web page.  Please feel free to contact our webmaster or myself if you have comments, suggestions or questions.

CALL FOR PAPERS—DEADLINE EXTENSION

SUBMISSION DUE BY APRIL 1, 2009

2009 TCA CONFERENCE

September 11-12, 2009

Natchez Trace State Park

The Tennessee Communication Association invites colleagues from college, high school and professional ranks to attend and to participate in our fall 2009 conference, both as presenters and attendees. Students are especially welcome.

Program theme
“Communication in the Modern World”

Our society continually experiences new growth and development in the behaviors, customs, and methods utilized in the communication process. Communication in the modern world encompasses many forms ranging from face-to-face communication to more advanced communication methods that incorporate the use of many types of technology. The 2009 TCA Conference will explore the nature of communication in the modern world and how individuals utilize successful communication strategies in the exchange of messages and information. We encourage submissions on a wide variety of interpretations of the theme.

Submission Deadline:

APRIL 1, 2009

(May 8, 2009 for student papers)

Proposals for presentations should include name, affiliation, e-mail & phone number, a descriptive title for the presentation, and an abstract of not more than 50 words. Representatives from TCA will examine the submissions for each interest area and will develop 50-minute panels based on common threads. Electronic presentations are welcome.
