100 Possible Point Values for This Course:
These points are awarded on the
following basis:
2. 10 points Internet Assignment Each student is responsible for finding (5) quality Internet sites on Health & Fitness and provides a 1/2 page brief review of the content and quality of information that it provides. The sites must be from five different categories. I am looking for legitimate and high quality sites. Particularly those are somewhat interactive. Also focus on the types of sites that are “permanent” rather than a news clip. See Attached Sheet for information or link Internet Assignment.
3. 10 points In Class Laboratory Participation Remember, You are graded on participation in the lab and you cannot receive a grade if you do not participate. Participation in a concept class is very important. There is no substitute for class participation. Students must wear either shorts, sweats, jogging clothes, or appropriate athletic apparel. Jeans are not acceptable for class participation, and tennis shoes must be worn at all times. Individual difference will be considered for the course. Physical performance results are not used for a grade. If you don’t participate an absence will be recorded. Points will not be given for incomplete lab material turn in. Students must follow the dress policies in order to
participate
in laboratory assignments.
5. 10 point - For using the WebCT discussion board
6. 10 Point - Fitness Assessment - Instructor directions
7. 20 Points- Planned Fitness program that each student maintain for suggested number of weeks by the instructor.
8. 10 points – Bonus points Students may receive up to 10 points for ten extra workouts outside of the regular class time in the fitness facility at Volunteer State Community College. You may not have more than one extra workout per week in order to receive this credit.
9. Late or Missed Assignments - A late or missed assignment (written exam and notebook assignments) will receive a grade of zero unless the absence is excused and a make-up date can be rescheduled with the instructor. Notebook assignments will not be accepted after the final deadline. Remember notebooks assignments can be turned at anytime until the final deadline. |
||||||
|
Grading Scale:
The grading scale is based on the following:
Mid-term Deficiencies “Students who are in danger of receiving a grade below the accepted minimum at mid-term will receive by mail notices indicating the lack of satisfactory progress.” N =Audit - No grade or credit. The student must have registered as an audit in order to receive this grade. W=Withdrawal - A grade of W is given by the admissions office after a student has processed a drop/add form through the Admissions Office. Note: The instructor does have the right to administratively withdraw a student from class resulting in a grade of W; but this is not automatic. Students wishing to withdraw must do so through SOTEP and the Admissions Office. Please consult with me prior to withdrawing from the course. I=Incomplete - An incomplete is given at the discretion of the instructor and must meet the following conditions: (a) Student attends regularly. (b) Student has completed 80% of the course work and is passing. (c) The instructor feels the student can realistically complete the course work in the following semester.
Note: If the course work is not completed prior to the exam period of the following semester, the grade is automatically converted to an F by the Admissions Office. |

| Class Participation | ||||||
|
1. There is no substitute for class participation. You are expected to actively participate. |
||||||
|
Punctuality: Late for class: This disturbs fellow students and guest speakers. Lateness is discouraged. |
||||||
|
Attendance: The student is allowed a certain number of absences in which "no penalty" is applied, these absences should be reserved for unusual circumstances. Further absences will result in points being deducted from the student's grade. The basis for deduction of these points can be found on the attendance scale which precedes. "no when a student is participating in a school activity which has been approved by the Dean of the College, the student will not be counted absent, but must make up the work within a week of the scheduled event. More than two absences will lower your unexcused grade one letter grade. Excused absences must have the instructor's approval.
