Course Description |
Supervised practicum with a minimum of 15 clock hours in seminar and 45 clock hours in early childhood practical experiences. Course includes a study of the physical and human qualities that combine to create an environment that is safe and healthy, and promotes optimum learning for young children age birth to nine. Pre-requisite or Co-requisite: ECED 2010 or Department Approval.

Outcomes |
The student will: 1. Use developmental knowledge to create a safe, healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging learning environment for young children 2. Use reflective practice to evaluate the effectiveness of learning environments. 3. Engage in collaborative learning opportunities to assist in making plans for improving the early childhood environment.

Suggestions for Course Assignments and Assessment |
1. Complete field work (minimum of 45 clock hours in student’s work-site, at an assigned practicum site, or other approved experiences). This field work will consist of: a. Conducting a safety assessment of the indoor and outdoor environments. b. Designing or improving a learning center, documenting before and after. c. Evaluate overall learning environment and list goals for improving. d. Evaluate daily schedule and collect transition activities. e. Make environmental adaptations or create a detailed plan for adaptations for a child with a disability. f. Complete Multicultural Rating Scale and evaluate needs. 2. Complete a collection in notebook format of assignments and resource materials. 3. Be visited and observed by course instructor at assigned practicum site. ( minimum of one visit). 4. Participate in self-assessment and goal setting. 5. Attend all seminars and complete textbook readings. |
