Chile is an elongated state, one that is six times longer that it is wide.
Chile has a very diversified economy and a relatively high standard of living. A valuable export of Chile
is copper. They have the largest copper mine in the world, called Chuquicamata. Other
precious metals add to foreign revenue, especially gold, silver, and lead. Chile won a war with
Bolivia and Peru from 1879 to 1883 over the Atacama Desert. This made an important contribution to
Chile's economic well-being.
Chile has the advantage of a Southern Hemisphere locale, meaning they have
summer while the Northern Hemisphere has winter. They have the advantage of crop
exportation because of their growing season is off-set from the north. They especially excel at
growing grapes in the middle highlands. A Mediterranean climate exists here, another nice natural
advantage.
