Farmer of the Chinese Loess Plateau

Stop 3: The Discovery

Word of an incredible discovery came from journalists near the city of Xian in 1974.  Local farmers were digging a well and pulled to the surface shards of what seemed like pottery.  They also found bronze arrowheads and other metal implements.  The man who dug the well (pictured above) had no idea what he had found and opted to sell these items to local businesses for a meager profit.  When knowledgeable individuals investigated the rumors of this archaeological find, they discovered a local woman had placed some of the unearthed heads on her mantel and was worshipping them as gods.  Further questioning of the locals revealed the presence of a burial pit and unknown wonders.  Archaeologists immediately descended on the site to begin excavation.
