of Qin Dynasty China This is the China that the Qin solidified. The star at Beijing indicates the current capital of China. But 2,000 years ago Xian was the focal point of China. At its zenith it is believed the city had a population of two million and was unsurpassed in commercial development. Xian was actually the capital for four of China's dynasties. "Xi" means west in the Chinese language, so Xian was the "western" capital. "Bei" means east in Chinese, so Beijing means the "eastern" capital. That is where one can find the Forbidden City, but it wasn't even built when Xian was the heart of power in central China.
