"How Do I Take...."
The following sections will provide a student with the
basic information needed for each of the different course delivery formats in
Distance Learning offered by Volunteer State.
How to Take CD-ROM Courses
- You must have access to a personal computer with a CD-ROM drive. Your pc should have Windows 95 or newer operating system.
- Check the class schedule carefully to determine if a first class meeting is required.
- Purchase your textbook/CD-ROMs through the VSCC Bookstore.
How to Take Video Courses
- You must have access to a VCR.
- Contact the College@Home Desk for course information. The phone number is (615)230-3409 or 741-3215, ext. 3409 or 1(888)335-8722, ext. 3409. Or, you may visit the College-at-Home Desk on the 2nd floor of the Thigpen Library.
- All classes have a required orientation session.
When there is no required orientation date listed, contact your instructor by
telephone or e-mail. A
telephone directory is available on the College's Web Site.
The number of required class meetings varies with each course. Check the course syllabus for required meeting dates. - Pick up your videotapes at the College-at-Home Desk in the VSCC Thigpen Library (2nd floor) or at the Center, Livingston or McGavock, where the course is offered.
- Purchase your textbooks through the Campus Bookstore or at the center where your video class is offered.
How to Take Online Courses
- You must have access to a personal computer and to the Internet. You should have Windows 95 or a newer system.
- Click on the self-assessment questionnaire "Should I Be an Online Student?"
- Visit the Courses and Schedules page on this Web Site, select the "Online Classes" page, and click on any online course listed. Each one provide information about the course, the instructor and what you will be expected to do, or contact the College@Home Desk in the Thigpen Library.
- Check the class schedule carefully to determine if a
first class meeting is required. If a day and a time are listed, you
must attend the orientation session.
When a day and time are NOT listed, contact your instructor by phone or e-mail. Visit the College's Web Site "Directory."
