About Dan Arena
Originally from NJ where he
completed his undergraduate and graduate work at Rutgers
University, The State University Of New Jersey.
He received a BA in Music and BS in Computer
Science in 1986, graduating from Rutgers with
Highest Honors. After working as a C++
Programmer for AT&T, he returned to Rutgers
University where he completed his MS in Computer
Science in 1990 and graduated with Highest
Honors. During this time he also served on
the Rutgers faculty, teaching such undergraduate
courses as Pascal, Cobol and Data Structures.
He began teaching for Middlesex County College
in NJ in 1990, but relocated with his wife, Sara
Light (a professional songwriter), to Nashville,
TN in 1992. In 1992, he accepted a
teaching position at Volunteer State Community
College and has been teaching here ever since.
A recipient of the Outstanding Faculty Award and
the TN Board Of Regents Innovations Award, he
teaches several online courses such as C# and
Visual Basic each semester as well as continuing
to teach "on ground" courses such as Java.
He and his wife continue to live in the
Nashville and they have a little girl, Mia, whom
they adopted in 2003.
