COM 100: Fundamentals of Speech Communication

SMALL GROUP PROJECT STEP #1

DUE ONE WEEK AFTER RECEIPT OF THIS HANDOUT

You have already been assigned groups for the group project. Part of your grade for this project will be to solve a problem as a group. The rest of the grade is a paper you write about the project and its results. This handout refers to the first part of the assignment.

You have already been assigned a group. (Group 1,2,3,4 or 5) Tell me if you don’t know your group number.

Your next task is to introduce yourself to the group. This will be done using the discussion board feature on campus pipeline.

1. Log on to Pipeline. (Go to www.volstate.edu and click on “Campus Pipeline” or log on directly from: http://vspipeline.volstate.edu/cp/home/loginf.
2. After you have logged on, click on the school services tab. This takes you to your list of classes. Click on COM 100.
3. Once in the COM 100 course, click on “Message Board” under the class tools heading on the left side of the page
4. You will see a list of discussion groups, labeled “Group 1”, etc. Click on your group. You will see any messages already posted.
5. Click on “Post a Message”.
6. This takes you to the data entry screen. In the subject area, write “Step 1” and in the message area, write your group introduction. This should include your name and Pipeline E-Mail (or any other e-mail address you would prefer your group members to use.)
7. After you post your message, you will see it appear in the Discussion Group for your group.
8. Send me an e-mail (from Pipeline –click on the “mail” icon) telling me you did this.

Once everyone in your group has posted their initial “hello” message, everyone in your group will know all group members’ names and e-mails.
