Note about the schedule:

It is important to pace yourself.  Do not wait to the deadline to read the text, watch the videos, study for the exams or prepare the speeches.  The exams are rigorous, and speeches take time to research, outline, practice and refine.  If you procrastinate, you will do poorly!

Note the fifth class may meet one hour later than the first 4.  I will keep you posted.  Class 5 may also meet in a different room.

Class #1:  Introductory Speech Assignment

Your first speech for this class will be a speech of introduction.  Your goal is to introduce yourself to the audience.  You will have 2 minutes to speak and you MUST speak for at least one minute.  This assignment is un-graded, but will be evaluated by class and instructor.  (We will be gentle.)

Keep the following hints in mind as you prepare.  (2 minutes prep time.)

1.             1-2 minutes in length

2.             Goal is to introduce self in an interesting an informative manner.  Hit the highlights, stay away from mundane aspects of your life.  What is interesting and unique about you?

3.             Be clear.  Have an obvious introduction, body and summary/conclusion to your speech.  The body should be organized by main ides –topics you are covering, such as time periods, events, etc.)

4.             Remember delivery is important too.  Make eye contact, smile, etc.

5.             Have some fun, or at least pretend to…
